Climate-Friendly Housing Development Honoured as Exemplary!
Our beautiful joint project with Aktivhaus, the follow-up accommodation for refugees in Böblingen, has been included by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects in the list of exemplary buildings in 2024. We are delighted that the housing estate, based on the Active House modules developed by Werner Sobek, is the latest climate-friendly project to receive an award.
New Crossing Preserves Nature
A bicycle bridge designed and planned by us in Tübingen was recently put into operation. The reinforced concrete composite bridge spans the Neckar River like an elegantly recessed ribbon. It makes it possible to experience the natural area below the barrage with its sandbanks, water birds and floodplain landscapes from above. As little surface area as possible was sealed. When planning the lighting, care was taken to minimize light pollution. Photo: Andreas Keller, Altdorf/Germany
Required Reading – Not Only for Architects
As promised, in the second volume of his trilogy "non nobis", Werner Sobek devotes himself to the corridors of action that remain for us to at least limit global warming and its serious consequences - the boundary conditions of the future.
Start
Sophisticated Daylight Planning: In the seaside resort of Batroun, a Lebanese art collector had a very special residence created for his family. All the rooms of the Villa Papillon are arranged around an unroofed inner courtyard - Werner Sobek was specially commissioned to plan the daylighting design.
Climate-Damaging Emissions Must be Banned
It is undisputed today that climate-damaging gases are responsible for climate change. Although the main polluters and possible absorbers are known, CO₂ emissions continue to rise steadily. In the first volume of his trilogy "non nobis", Werner Sobek explains very clearly what exactly this means and what this action inevitably leads to.
LandArt: 23° Stellar Sculpture
In Branitzer Park Cottbus, a 23-meter-long gold-plated steel tube rises from the ground at an angle of 23°. With his work, conceptual artist Marc Schmitz visualizes the relationship of the Earth's natural climate zones to the inclination of the Earth's axis - and thus makes a valuable artistic contribution to the topic of climate change. We are proud to have thus made one more contribution to the promotion of art and culture.
Award for Remstal Pavilion
We are very pleased that the Belvedere pavilion, which was designed by the architectural firm Barkow Leibinger for the Remstal Garden Show 2019, received a distinction from the German Steel Construction 2020. The 5-metre-high spatial framework in the middle of the Fellbach vineyards offers a beautiful destination for hikers. Werner Sobek was responsible for its structural engineering. #remstalergartenschau2019 #germansteelconstruction2020
Providing Shade for the Desert
The World Expo EXPO in Dubai closed its gates at the end of March 2022. With our filigree shading systems, we were able to make a significant contribution to the design of the EXPO site - we are all the more pleased that the shading systems will continue to be used. Werner Sobek was responsible for the general planning, the design, the supporting structure, the TGA planning and the sustainability concept of the wide-span system. #expodubai #dubai #shadingsystem #roofconstruction
Above the Clouds
In this film, team leader Holger Hinz guides us through the 246-metre-high ThyssenKrupp test tower in Rottweil. The tower is used for testing high-speed lifts - in addition, it is also the highest membrane structure in the world. Marvel with us - here is the video about a multi-award-winning building. The World Exposition EXPO 2020 opened its doors in October 2021. Here, more than 190 nations present themselves with spectacular buildings. We are pleased that we were able to make a significant contribution to the design of the EXPO site with our filigree shading systems. EXPO Dubai Shades
In October 2021, the EXPO in Dubai finally opened its doors. We are proud that we were able to make a significant contribution to the design of the EXPO site with our large-scale shading systems. Our filigree roof structures connect all the country pavilions on the EXPO site. The structures span a total area of around 96,000 square metres.
Transparent Tram Stops for Dresden
Two more tram stops, also designed by Werner Sobek, were recently completed in Dresden. The stops "Kesselsdorfer Straße" and "Bahnhof Strehlen/Oskarstraße" are reduced steel and glass constructions that blend harmoniously into the streetscape. We are very pleased to have contributed to the cityscape of Dresden with our glass roofs. Design: Werner Sobek, Stuttgart/Germany Photography: Andreas Keller, Altdorf/Germany

Attentive internet users will have already noticed - our website has recently been completely relaunched. The aim was not only to create enough space for reports on our many projects. A special focus was on communicating our stance on important future tasks. The new website is therefore particularly dedicated to our future topics and statements. Dock 10
Europe's largest covered floating dock, Dock 10 of the Lürssen shipyard Blohm+Voss, started its journey in spring 2021: It has temporarily moved from the port of Hamburg to Berne near Bremen - in about two years it will then return to Hamburg. Werner Sobek was responsible for the design and planning of the translucent membrane roofing that encloses the dock.
