Red Dot Design Award: Qiara
The Qiara smart home security system consists of five objects connected via radio frequency with access to a 24/7 monitoring centre. In a compact design, it integrates temperature, humidity and air quality sensors and is easy to install via app instructions. A special feature of the system is that it switches off automatically when the residents are present in order to maintain privacy.
Red Dot Design Award: Modulap ONE
Modulap ONE is a product series of modular architectural elements for trade fairs and events. The series includes freely combinable components such as light boxes, light frames, counters and LED light cubes as well as accessories including brochure and tablet holders, shelves and product stands. “The creative focus is on simple, tool-free set-up, ease of transport and eco-friendly materials for a minimal environmental footprint,” the judges noted.
Red Dot Design Award: Link Essential
Link Essential is the new connectivity bridge of the Somfy Home Alarm Security System series. It is the heart of the network and enables the accessories to work together as a system. Link Essential is connected to the internet via a secure Wi-Fi connection and allows the status of the system to be checked and controlled while on the move. “The look is low-interference and blends well into home environments,” praised the jury.
Red Dot Design Award: VARILOX
The VARILOX closure system for cold storage and freezing room doors is a modular solution for food shops and restaurants, but also for the medical sector. The jury was impressed by how the design of the components is geared to the requirements of these areas of application. Regular rough handling necessitates a robust and reliable function.
Red Dot Design Award: Super Chair
The Super Chair is a little different, because it is so hard to take one’s eyes off the striking silhouette that so eloquently sums up the overall design statement. Moulded from a single piece of polypropylene, the designer could almost be described as a sculptor, because the Super Chair is more of a sculptural object than a functional item of seating furniture.
Red Dot Design Award: XT Platform
The XT platform is a modular series of digital switches for home automation. Its user interface, inspired by smartphones and automobiles, is designed to give users an easy, intuitive start. Thanks to INMOLD technology and a large number of icons, it can be conveniently tailored to the desired applications. “The XT platform improves the user experience of home automation and facilitates the integration of more complex functions,” praised the jury.
Red Dot Design Award: Slider Bot
The main application of the Slider Bot is the intelligent redesign of existing home scenes. The curtain robot is suitable for most curtain rods due to its clip shape and supports manual or voice-controlled start-up as well as differentiated, app-controlled pre-setting to automatically open and close a curtain. A low-power passive vibration sensor and eight pairs of Hall sensors enable precise control of the movement path.
Red Dot Design Award: Jambless
Jambless is a series of sun and insect doors for various door dimensions and sizes. Using a newly developed load-balancing technology, it is even possible to construct very large door sizes up to 9 m wide and over 3 m high without compromising stability. The protective doors are designed for easy installation – insect screens as well as sunshades are made of durable materials with no maintenance required.
Red Dot Design Award: Harol Coolscreen Collection
The modern Harol Coolscreen Collection is a sustainable collection of vertical sunshades with a single set of components. The minimalist shape of the box, thanks to screwless guide rails and a hidden base strip, offers planners a wide range of possible applications. Light accents are set by the integrated, dimmable LED lighting, which also increases the security of the building.
Red Dot Design Award: Verkada AD32 Door Reader and AC62 16 Door Controller
The AD32 multiform factor door reader is available in both single and mullion versions for conventional and narrow installations such as lifts and door frames. It uses an RS-485 connection with the AC62 door controller for secure access control. The AD32’s nine-LED indicator shows the status.
Red Dot Design Award: Mate C
Inspired by forms found in nature, the Mate C chair has an organic-looking aesthetic. In the opinion of the jury, “it manages to deliver an environmentally thoughtful reinterpretation of the popular seat shells of the 1960s.” In line with the sustainability commitments of the manufacturer – a socially aware cooperative – the chair is produced from a limited number of easily separable and recyclable components.
UPMOTION
The Super Chair is a little different, because it is so hard to take one’s eyes off the striking silhouette that so eloquently sums up the overall design statement. Moulded from a single piece of polypropylene, the designer could almost be described as a sculptor, because the Super Chair is more of a sculptural object than a functional item of seating furniture.
Red Dot Design Award: Canelé S, Canelé L, Dorique, FL11, WL10
The collection of three-dimensional wall panels Canelé S, Canelé L, Dorique and the profiles FL11 and WL10 by Belgian designer Bertrand Lejoly embodies a series of decorative elements with subtle shapes and tactile reliefs. Each panel can be lacquered and used individually or in combination with the others to create almost infinite arrangements.
Red Dot Design Award: Facet
The name of this sliding door system, Facet, refers to the sophisticated design of its angular tapered profile surfaces. Inspired by the facets of cut gemstones, this structure allows for slim door profiles that reflect the ambient light with varying intensity, creating different hues of the respective finish: copper, champagne or black. The versatile systems can be used as room dividers or as doors for built-in wardrobes.
