Old Dutch Sterling Silver Bon Bon Scoop Peacock Design 5.75 inches / 14 cm

Old Dutch Sterling Silver pieced Almond Scoop Spoon with a peacock bowl design. The scarce and desirable spoon is 5.75 inches / 14 cm long. Marked with Lion Passant mark indicates 2nd standard purity, minimum .833 and the Key mark upon the Lion to indicate the object was designed for export. Both marks was used from 1853 to 1953. The late 1880s saw chocolate manufacturing take off, sparking the bon bon craze and producing the bon bon scoop. The lack of preservatives and refrigeration made touching the chocolate with your fingers a messy affair so the bon bon scoop ensured a clean pick up. Very good condition with no breaks, repairs.
