This fluffy green lichen is a common sight around here. It grows in clumps in sandy areas with plenty of sun. Despite the name, deer moss is not eaten by deer or most other animals due to the fact that it’s quite acidic. The acidity makes it taste bad and will result in a good stomach ache if eaten. It looks nice scattered among the brown leaf litter, though.
