The sheer size of the Roman Empire becomes apparent when you travel all around Europe and the Mediterranean. The Balkans were at the heart of the Roman Empire: Of the about 70 or 80 Roman emperors, over a dozen were born in today’s Serbia, and many of them visited their Serbian hometowns regularly. Travelling in Serbia, we decided to visit Felix Romuliana near Gamzigrad. It is the palace Emperor Galerius built for his mother Romula and himself in the late 3rd century.
