The legendary Idrija mercury mines – UNESCO World Heritage in Slovenia

The Idrija mercury mines were a great day trip from Ljubljana which we did recently. These mercury mines are a UNESCO world heritage site, and they made for a fantastic option on a rainy day. We found the mining history of Idrija quite fascinating and a bit scary. You can actually walk deep into those disused mines! And here and there, we could still see droplets of the highly poisonous mercury!
