Antonia Hirsch, Intravert (2014). Hirsch’s work contemplates hierarchies of power implemented through visual regimes. Her project at 221A rehearses the mirrored surface—and in particular the one-way mirror—touching on the dynamics of interiority and exteriority, private and public space, narcissism and empathy, and inclusion and exclusion. The reflective window treatment is commonly associated with seedy stores and clinics that occupy many of the centre’s neighbouring streets.
