This year’s winner of our American Homebrewers Association-sanctioned homebrewing competition, Chris Banker, helped keep us grounded to our homebrewing roots by introducing flavors consistent with our regional palate. His chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg, chile pepper and coffee-infused milk stout was built to mimic the flavors of Mexican hot chocolate, a beloved specialty from our neighbors to the south, as our callaborators from Baja California, Cervezería Insurgente, will attest.
Sol beer is brought from the distant Mexico. Legend says, that one morning in the year 1899, in a small brewery near Mexico City, called "El salto de agua" a German brewer spotted the reflection of a small radius from the Sun in one of the barrels. Honoring this moment, he created a new beer which he called "El Sol". Sol is a golden beer, authentic Mexican, with aromatic taste, full of freshness.
