Ellinger Tor at Weissenburg, Germany ("the gate leading to the town of Ellingen")
Recognized as one of Bavaria's most beautiful town gates is the 14th century Ellinger Tor in Weissenburg (courtesy of Wikipedia). Hard to believe, but in the 19th century, then "progressives" wanted to tear down the gate to make room for road construction. Now it is on Bavaria's historic register.
Das sieht doch wunderschön aus und ist nicht weit von der ebenfalls schönen Stadt Koblenz.

Ellinger Tor in Weissenburg, Bavaria, one of the most beautiful citygates in Germany
Yet another view of the - largely intact historic wall, gate churches and other building of the Franconian town of Weissenburg, which is said to be 2000 years old. Charlemagne himself had built a residence here at one point. Weissenburg (the white castle) is less touristy than better known Rothenburg (the red castle), but it is definitely more affordable and has lots of sights to offer.
