General James Hamilton, the 1st duke of Hamilton and Scottish Royalist soldier. Captured by Oliver Cromwell at the Battle of Preston in 1648, he was executed on the 9th of March 1649 after trying to escape captivity.

The two-colored brocade frames the elegant silk in a matching plain color to highlight the trimmings and the sleeve lining. beadwork complete the creation of one of the jewels of the historical collection . The dress is brought to figure lacing and full skirt running out to a small, but very elegant train.
