Seattle-based artist Michael Leavitt mixes low-brow art and pop-surrealism in his latest exhibition 'Empire Peaks'. The 'Art Army project' is a series of action figure-style sculptures that disguise pop culture icons as Star Wars characters. The majority of the represented people are historical figures from past to present, including Abraham Lincoln, Obama, Gandhi, and Sarah Palin, Steve Jobs, Michael Jackson, Einstein, and Angelina Jolie. Levitt's statues are made from hand-carved cedar wood and polymer clay. Their cheeky, irreverent appearance comes across like a bizarro version of Madame Tussauds wax museum. It's pop art with an absurdist sense of humor. Can you draw any parallels between the famous people and their Star Wars equivalent?
