Wildomar, in Riverside County, began as a subdivision map in 1885. By 1887, as this view shows, Wildomar had a school, a blacksmith, and the inevitable hotel. Declining rail service in the early 1900s stalled Wildomar’s incorporation. Unlike the towns that faded after the boom of 1887, Wildomar persisted, finally incorporating in 2008, only to face possible disincorporation seven years later.
