Dress, circa 1880s: dark brown taffeta, cream silk damask, lace, and silk. Chester County (PA) Historical Society: “This dress is an example of over-the-top embellishment. It features silk chenille fringe, bows, lace, swags, ruffles and pleated scallops. There is even asymmetrical lacing up one side. What is even more astounding than the level of decoration is the size of the waist which measures merely 17.5" around.

1885 Day Dress Culture: American Medium: silk taffeta, velvet, satin Brown silk taffeta and brown velvet flowers cut to rust satin day dress. Long waisted bodice with standing collar of cut velvet, velvet lapel on left and inset at waist, dickie of gathered silk with buttons on right, sleeve with puffed shoulder and fitted lower arm with velvet cuff. The skirt with pleated front and velvet inset on left side, overskirt draped over hip.
