Ordered by Peter the Great in 1712, when St-Petersburg was young, completed in 1733, already after Peter's death. Main landmark of St-Petersburg, burial place for Russian Emperors, spire is 122,5 meters high.
December 5, #FortressFriday brings us to Wales, where we find the fortified church of St Rhidian, and later also named for St Illtyd. The church was granted by William de Turberville in the 12th century to the Knights of Saint John of the Hospital, who began the current building in the thirteenth century and finished the fortified tower to protect local villagers from bandits in the 14th century.
