A BMW traffic patrol vehicle of Greater Manchester Police advertises the fact that it is fitted with the latest version of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system. ANPR has helped us take tens of thousands of unlicensed and uninsured vehicles off the road since 2005. www.gmp.police.uk
The rare site seen was recently as many of Greater Manchester Police’s ANPR fleet gathered together for an operation. Over 250 officers using ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) technology in more than 100 police cars went on the road to monitor traffic on the region’s main routes. The operation saw over 1,800 vehicle checks.
