This was its public debut at Maker Faire UK, part of Newcastle Science Fest 2011. The dome is 4 metres in diameter, 3 metres high, constructed from 135 estate agent boards and 25 wooden poles. The outer shell is held together with 270 plastic nuts and bolts.
MakerFaire:DIY dome. Toby Vann and Michael Gates of Archimedes Design have developed shelters based on Buckminster Fuller concepts. (Fuller is the father of the geodesic dome.) At this year’s Maker Faire, they will be teaching visitors how to build their dome structures out of parts that can be purchased at the hardware store.
Foldboat is a rowing boat made from a standard sized sheet of plastic. By manipulating the material, we have created live hinges allowing you to fold and un-fold the plastic sheet into the shape of a boat.
