This neighborhood is still working class and several hundred years ago would have provided the Arsenale with its workers. Today the Arsenale is used by Italy's Navy and other maritime organizations, but that may change and there is much debate as to what to do with this historic property.

Doge Francesco Erizzo Monument -- San Martino, Venice, Italy - ncesco Erizzo was 65 and Proveditor General of the Army when he was elected Doge. Fifteen years later at age 80 and still Doge he was almost elected as the supreme commander of Allied forces against the Turks. Venice perceived itself to be in a desperate situation. The old Doge Erizzo declared himself up to the task. Unfortunately he died three week later.

Though such artisans could be very good designers, we assume the complex design for this well-head was done by someone else
