The 4th Annual Life of an Architect Playhouse Design Competition had an amazing turnout this year and I am proud to announce the 28 finalists that will be moving on to the final round

A while back we featured the Fold Chair by Nina Bruun, and she's emailed us her newest creation, the Nest Chair, which was inspired by the coming season

Cup-shaped bird nests are giving scientists a new way to study how fluid materials can turn solid in the right circumstances. Birds use found materials to make strong, lightweight homes. Scientists could mimic nest design to make synthetic materials with the same properties.

Porky Hefer’s Nests are quirky, visually mesmerizing and comfortable. To create them, the designer takes inspiration from nature and works with local craftspeople.

Designer Porky Hefer's organic capsules are part of Grains of Paradise: Contemporary African Design in collaboration with Southern Guild, a group exhibition at a gallery specializing in contemporary design.

Narl Chair by Carl Durkow is a rocking chair that creates a relaxing environment for the occupant with its comfortable seating area.

Hotel complex located on the trees of a forest that are connected to each other by wooden suspension bridges and tensioners, all part of a central nucleus with a vestibule and a viewpoint restaurant that distributes the bedrooms with bathrooms.

Overlooking the majestic plains of Laikipia in Kenya is the Nay Palad Bird Nest, a luxury accommodation that looks like a giant—you guessed it—bird’s nest. The two-story suite features a timber frame woven entirely from locally-sourced materials such as tree branches and farmed wood. Its viewing platform, though not ideal for laying eggs, is ideal for having breakfast and coffee while enjoying a breathtaking view of a nearby river and the animals that visit it.

Porky Hefer is a South African artist and the mastermind behind some seriously unorthodox seating.

Jonah asked God to rescue him from the belly of a whale probably because it wasn't very comfortable inside, but Jonah definitely wouldn't complain about sitting in the mouth of one of these hanging chairs. Designed by Porky Hefer from Cape Town, South Africa, his chairs resemble various creatures and were recently on display at Design Miami 2015. “Monstera Deliciosa” is the name of the project.
