an old rusted metal surface with peeling paint on the edges and brown stains all over it

Well, what a great ego boost the last blog posting was. Thank you all so much for the lovely comments you have left. No pressure there then *LOL* I will ask young David at work to draw a name tomorrow so if anyone hasn’t put their name down yet then please do, I shall check one last time before he picks a winner. Remember the chemical rust dyeing I did a couple of weeks ago? Well, I decided to put all the pieces of fabric through the washing machine and although they have come out soft and…

a piece of deconstructed fabric in rust tones (looks like it's rusted, but not so), folded and clamped and dipped in INDIGO solution so only the edges picked up color. Eco Printing, Mirror Image, How To Make Paper, Shibori, Natural Dyes, White Fabrics, Fashion Show, In This Moment, Fabric

We had many Ah Haaaa moments at the end of the day...so many wonderful techniques to try and so many successes. We always have great fun regardless of the outcome...but even better when we can jump up and down with excitement! the floor is covered in dirt and has been laid out to look like a cross

I've been painting a bit lately. No, no, not with oils or acrylic or watercolors even, rather with a tea/vinegar mixture. Any painters who happen to stumble upon this post are probably thinking that I've gone totally bonkers...and that may just be true. Still... The hard line on the left above resulted from painting a line of tea/vinegar on dry cotton in an attempt to rust a bold line down the piece. The hard line is actually where the mixture/rust bled and was totally unplanned, but very…

two pieces of paper with brown and white designs on them

Home with a day off after my stimulating CQ Winter School workshop on rust marks with Alice Fox, I wanted to have a go straight away while it was fresh in my mind. I found a bag with some old tools in the cellar ( mainly some of my Dad's pliers) and some Green Tea bags bought from a herbalist in Iran which I hadn't got round to trying ( good for obesity apparently!) As before I placed some watercolour paper in a tray and placed tools and items either directly onto the paper or wrapped them…

a piece of fabric with brown and white paint on the edges, that looks like it has been burnt

This is my gauntlet. I worked it as part of my apprenticeship at the Royal School of Needlework back in 1993, or thereabouts, sometime in my second year. It was one of the last pieces I worked where we could pretty much work whatever we wanted, so I decided on this. I wanted to work something royal, regal, opulent, theatrical, and in red and gold. I made the glove, but not the pattern as it is a specialist craft in itself, I found a pattern I could use, hand stitched it together by hand, and…
