chrysaor (Χρυσάωρ) - greek king of iberia & son of gorgon medusa
3.8k
In Greek mythology, Chrysaor (“he who has a golden sword”), the brother of the winged horse Pegasus, was often depicted as a young man, the son of Poseidon and the Gorgon Medusa. Chrysaor and Pegasus were said to be born from the drops of Medusa’s blood that fell in the sea; others say that they sprang from Medusa’s neck as Perseus beheaded her, a “higher” birth (such as the birth of Athena from the head of Zeus).

Geryon is the son of Chrysaor and Callirrhoe and is the grandson of Medusa. He was a fearsome giant who dwelt on the island Erytheia of the mythic Hesperides in the far west of the Mediterranean. A more literal-minded later generation of Greeks associated the region with Tartessos in southern Iberia.

The Ceryneian hind in greek mythology was a mythical creature that lived in Ceryneia, Greece and took the form of an enormous female deer, larger than a bull, with golden antlers like a stag, hooves of bronze or brass, a "dappled hide", "excelled in swiftness of foot" and snorted fire. To bring it back alive to Eurystheus in Mycenae was the third labour of Heracles, that almost cost him the wrath of gods Artemis and Apollo given that the hind was sacred to Artemis. The father of monsters known to the ancient Greeks and certainly the most dangerous of them all, he was often associated with devastating storms, floods, and hurricanes issued forth from his presence, though later writers describe him as a volcanic monster spitting out red-hot rock from his mouth, trapped beneath the weight of...
