This project is a fusion of traditional Shanghai’s popular Shikumen neighbourhood with Western courtyard houses and public spaces. Shikumen houses formed the basis of a lane community where private neighbourhood and public spaces overlapped back in the early 1900s. The project is to rebuild a residential building at a small site in *KIBA Tokyo, Japan. Even though their individual size is small, the different types of housing are being built together, thus creating a huge residential community within the city. Metamorphosis of an Imperial Military Building into the Tübingen District Court. Between 2018 and 2021, Dannien Roller Architekten implemented both the extensive renovation of the severely damaged state-owned chamber building and its functional and symbolic transformation into a modern place of jurisdiction. Dannien Roller Architekten + Partner was awarded Winner in the ICONIC AWARDS: Innovative Architecture.
While many facilities containing mechanical cemeteries mimic ordinary office buildings, this project attempted to convert the large presence in the city into a positive feature. Temples and mountains have a paired relationship. Therefore, we planted trees from the mountain on all levels, covering them with a curtain made of copper pipes. The network control centre is not only the fulcrum of the operation, but a high-end comprehensive office building as well. Programme-wise, the complexity of the building largely exceeds that of an ordinary office building. The centre needs to fulfil the requirements of a normal office, and at the same time meet the needs of the programme, facilities, environment, and security. Manshan Art Centre is located in Gongyi, Henan Province. It is the pilot project of a mountain town. The land is situated at the end of hill travelling east to west, and the south side contains the only road from the city. The hill is the natural boundary of the town, which divides the land into two areas: inside and outside. The idea is to use the tangible nature of the design to outline the inertia of thought, applying the philosophy of »Oriental Minimalism«.
