The Golden Retriever was bred by Lord Tweedmouth of the Scotch Highlands from the Flat-Coated Retriever and the Tweed Water Spaniel. Bloodhound and Irish Setter genes were further added along the way to create the Golden Flat Coat, known today as the Golden Retriever.
