Here is Emile Berliner along with his famous invention, the disc gramophone, for which he was granted a patent in 1887. He also invented the method of pressing discs to make mass manufacture possible. Although it is monaural, I included it because this is where it all began. Over a century later, many still feel analog discs are the best sound. Today's passion for LP records and classic turntables began with Berliner's dislike of the cylinder phonographs invented by Thomas Edison.
