The 1954 Asian Games (officially known as the Second Asian Games – Manila 1954) was a mult-sport event celebrated in Manila, Philippines from May 1 to May 9, 1954. The Spanish cruiser Reina Cristina was shelled and sunk on May 1, 1898, during the Battle of Manila Bay by USS Baltimore, USS Boston and USS Olympia (all United States Navy) with the loss of about half her complement.
