Fang helmet hat - men and women in this region had rich hairdos in helmet shape, decorated with beads, cowries, buttons, and brass nails and constructed over raffia or palm leaf supports. Some hats were fashioned in the same manner and form. According to Tessmann, the hats were made only by the Fang and the Ntum. The hats, like the coiffures, were worn daily, but the hats were removed for hunting and mourning. D: 23 cm; H: 18 cm, coll. in situ, about 1960
