Every World Press Photo Winner From 1955-2011

1994 - A Hutu man at a Red Cross hospital, his face mutilated by the Hutu 'Interahamwe' militia, who suspected him of sympathizing with the Tutsi rebels. (James Nachtwey)

James-Nachtwey (1948) - American photojournalist and war photographer. He has been awarded the Overseas Press Club's Robert Capa Gold Medal five times. In 2003, he was injured by a grenade in an attack on his convoy while serving as a Time contributing correspondent in Baghdad, from which he has made a full recovery. On February 1, 2014, Nachtwey was grazed by a bullet on his left leg whilst photographing the Thailand political protests.

James Nachtwey, Kabul, Afganistan, 1996. Some (not this one) of the most grotesque photos I've ever seen but also the most powerful.

James Nachtwey // The Witness // El Testigo.

James Nachtwey is a world renowned war photographer. He has captured thousands of the worlds most tragic moments and events and though his photos are sad and heart wrenching, they have an everlasting effect that is hard to erase once exposed to them and this is important when it comes to what it means to be a photojournalist. His work is inspiring to me because it brings awareness to where it is needed most and this is what I plan to do in my journalism career.

James Nachtwey - Deeds of War

Huge respect for James Nachtwey. His pictures showcase a world that you will not see on tv, radio, press and traditional internet.
