Clever cabinetry allows for the baskets to be rolled in beneath the laundry chute, which is also disguised by a cabinet. Whoever is doing laundry can roll the full bin over to the machines, replace it with an empty bin and use the other two for sorting.

Laundry Chute - If your bedroom is two floors up from the washer and dryer, you might want to resurrect another nearly forgotten feature of old homes: the laundry chute. If you'd like to construct your own, to ensure that your clothes are funneled smoothly, weld sheet metal together to create a ramp, or use lengths of extra-large PVC pipe to form a tube that ends in your laundry room.
This just gives me the idea of how nice it would be to have some sort of way to store each family member's laundry. Nothing else about it is too appealing. But this is a pretty compact way to do something like that.
