101st Airborne Division's 3rd Brigade and other units fought for 12 days against North Vietnamese forces before U.S. and South Vietnamese forces captured the mountain that the Americans referred to as "Hamburger Hill.
A Shau Valley hill # 937 Battle began May 10th ended May 20th Brutal Battle, left 72 KIA,400 wounded. The hill was named "Hamburger Hill" as it was described as going thru a human meat grinder. Someone stuck a piece of cardboard to a tree with a bayonet saying, "Hamburger Hill" underneath a soldier added " Was it Worth it" ! 15 days later June 5th we abandoned the hill and the NVA reclaimed it immediately! Yet is was called a AMERICAN VICTORY. It changed us forever after that!
