Best City Chicken

Best City Chicken Recipe

Mom's City Chicken--I first had this dish when my Polish husband's father made them years ago, and I fell in LOVE! I'm thrilled to find this version which eliminates the frying step without sacrificing flavor.

City Chicken Recipe - My Grandma's recipe for City Chicken! So good! There are so many versions of city chicken - all started when chicken was too expensive during the Great Depression. A staple in many farm homes still in the Midwest!

City Chicken. I grew up on City Chicken, and love it! For those who don't know, it is not chicken at all, but pork (sometimes veal) chunks on skewers. This recipe is pretty close to what I grew up making. Try it!

City Chicken ~~~ "This is an old-timey favorite at our house. If you don’t know what City Chicken is, here’s a hint: It ain’t chicken...That’s right…City Chicken is actually pork and sometimes even veal and/or beef, but never chicken. A popular dish in Pittsburgh and the surrounding region, this mock-chicken dinner has been handed down for generations over the past century." ~ Faithfulness Farm

Best City Chicken

Best City Chicken. My Mom use to call these Mock Chicken Legs. She would make 100 every year for the family picnic. How we loved them. Good hot or cold.

City Chicken (But It's Not Chicken!)

City Chicken (But It s Not Chicken!) from Ultimate winter, "feel good" food! This is a favorite at our house and the gravy just has to be served over some homemade, garlic mashed potatoes. Add some Chunky Cinnamon Applesauce and you have a wonderful meal! This recipe came from a '98 Taste of Home Magazine. This can be a bit on the salty side - exchanging the garlic salt for garlic powder and then using reduced sodium chicken broth would help.
