On this day (27 Sep) in 1905 a paper arrived at the editorial offices of the journal Annalen der Physik. The author was Albert Einstein; the title, "Does the Inertia of a Body Depend Upon Its Energy Content?" In the paper, Einstein introduced the concept of matter-energy equivalence. Although E = mc² does not appear in the paper, the famous equation is present implicitly in the sentence, "If a body gives off the energy L in the form of radiation, its mass diminishes by L/c²."
