Boro Jacket ....the beauty lies in the living continued use of fabric scraps over the years to repair and make it always useable by everyday people. A true historical record of its owner/owners .. A testament to the fact that new is not necessarily better.

An Expert's Favorite Japanese Textiles
This boro, or ragged textile, from the mid 20th century is intensely sashiko stitched from many layers and was used as a cover for a heated table or kotatsu, which was the sole heating source in many old Japanese homes. Families would gather around the kotatsu and slip their legs under the kotatsugake for warmth.
