Working Women of the West
Women in the Wild West were more than just wives and mothers. They often started their own businesses. Boarding houses, restaurants, house cleaners, bakeries, and tailor shops were common endeavors for women. Many women also made their living as teachers and nurses. Although prostitution was a common business as well, it was by no means the only option for a woman looking to earn some money in the West.
